7 IT Jobs That Will Be Created By SaaS

        posted by , November 26, 2012

In 2011, the SaaS market is forecast to grow 20.7 percent (gartner).

Just for the sake of argument, let's assume that SaaS continues to grow at a double digit rate and eventually becomes the dominant model for enterprise software.

How will SaaS affect the IT job market?

SaaS is a type of outsourcing. Instead of outsourcing a project or process — SaaS outsources applications. It's often assumed that SaaS leads to smaller IT departments. This isn't necessarily true.

We may be entering an age in which integration is more important than the applications themselves. An age in which your IT competitive advantage isn't based on your applications but how you interweave your SaaS apps.

SaaS will boost demand for the following IT staff:

1. Enterprise Architects

SaaS makes your architecture less centralized and more highly integrated. The value and complexity of enterprise architecture programs will increase — demand for top enterprise architects will rise dramatically.

2. Data Architects

Outsourcing your applications to a large number of SaaS vendors gives you diverse, proprietary data models to deal with.

3. Information Architects

Users won't use SaaS applications directly. SaaS applications will be pulled together with mashups. Information architects will be critical to the design of user interfaces and information flows.

4. Vendor Relationship Managers

The focus of IT management will shift towards vendor management. Support, integration and customization will require the coordination of a large number of partners.

5. Integration Architects

SaaS or not, organizations are finding that integration and data are key challenges. SaaS will lower the burden of application development, customization and support — so that organizations can focus on building highly integrated platforms and processes.

6. Integration Analysts

Integration will likely be simplified to flexible mashup interfaces. There will be powerful tools for integrating data on the fly. Integration Analysts will be business focused.

7. Analytics Analysts

With all that complex integrated data available — analytics will be key.
