About

 , updated on
Simplicable is a modern encyclopedia that has been updated daily since 2010.

Mission

Explain useful ideas as directly as possible with no attempt to persuade or impress. Get to the point and try to be helpful.

Objectivity

We have no conflicts of interest and are not influenced by our advertisers or any outside interest. We have no agenda. All writers have a viewpoint and a background but we try to be matter-of-fact, pragmatic and objective.

Name

Simplicable is a portmanteau of simple and applicable. This was selected in 2010 to represent our mission of trying to be helpful by explaining complex topics as intuitively and directly as possible.

Style

We follow a style guide centered around the management consulting concept known as mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive (MECE). This simply means that we try to cover every aspect of a topic at a foundational level without repetition. Our pursuit of MECE is the reason that many of our lists are absurdly long.

Pursuit of Directness

We pursue directness -- to explain the core of concepts without delving into the obvious and cliche. There is some balance to be struck in explaining things in a succinct way without oversimplifying. We believe explanations can be short without being watered down.
