BPM vs BPM

        posted by , February 04, 2011

BPM is a much over-used acronym — Business Process Management, Business Process Modelling and Business Process Mapping are all commonly referred to as BPM. As you can imagine, this generates quite a bit of confusion.

The best way to distinguish between the different BPM acronyms is to remember that they are all related.

business process modelling

Business Process Management is a management approach that involves defining and continuously optimizing processes.

Business Process Modelling is one part of Business Process Management that involves documenting as-is and to-be business processes.

Business Process Mapping is pretty much the same as Business Process Modelling. It is an outdated term.

Whoever came up with this terminology must have had a good sense of humour.
