The Secure Password Paradox
posted by Anna Mar, April 27, 2011As passwords become more secure they become less memorable. As they become less memorable users are more likely to write them down — dramatically reducing security.
Password Management Software
Password management software seems like a solution. However, password management software can become a single point of failure. The user secures all passwords in the tool and must select one master password. If that master password is compromised — all the user's passwords can potentially be exposed. The user must therefore pick a very secure master password and will be tempted to write it down.
The secure password paradox limits the security of password based systems.
