The Value of Mashups for the Enterprise
posted by Anna Mar, November 26, 2011Mashups allow webpages to be built from multiple services distributed throughout the enterprise (content aggregation).
The value of Mashups lies in the potential of content aggregation to replace traditional methods of integration.
Enterprises have islands of information — large organizations typically have thousands of them. Employees, partners and customers need to access information aggregated from multiple islands. The traditional methods to achieve this include:
batch integration / ETL
ESB
service integration (SOA)
API integration (e.g. RMI)
Mashups are often a faster and cheaper way to get data to your users than any of the methods above. Mashups can also be used to drive analytics and automation.
