What is Metabolism?

Metabolism was a Japanese architecture movement that was influenced by organic structures. It is unique in that it makes heavy use of concrete giving it a brutalist feel. Most organic architecture makes use of natural materials and stresses integration of buildings and structures with natural surroundings. Despite the organic-looking structures of metabolist buildings that have a cold, totalitarian presence. Most metabolist buildings date to the 1970s and are now popularly considered bizarre examples of urban decay.
