Recreation is an activity that is freely chosen. This can be contrasted with work and mandatory tasks that aren't a completely free choice. Recreation also implies that you take an active role in an activity as opposed to entertainment that can be passive. The following are common examples of recreation.

For example, makeup as an art or sewing original costumes or fashions.Do-It-Yourself (DIY)Activities that produce or restore things that are usually provided by the industrial economy. DIY often involves a spirit of self-sufficiency and the notion that you appreciate things more when you create them for yourself.HobbiesA hobby is an interest that you develop in-depth such that you learn about it. This implies some dedication and commitment. A hobby can apply to virtually any pursuit as long as you take the time to master a skill, research and learn about your interest. This can include academic topics such as astronomy that you pursue as an amateur.Cultural ActivitiesRecreation that is cultural such as dancing in a traditional festival. Cultural activities can also relate to modern culture such as pop culture or youth culture. For example, cosplaying can be viewed as a cultural type of recreation.SummaryRecreation is an activity pursued for enjoyment or as a type of enrichment whereby you find an activity is rewarding or fulfilling. This is similar to the concept of leisure with recreation implying activities that are active as opposed to merely passive.
