Hobbies

A hobby is an interest that you develop in-depth such that you learn about it. This implies some dedication and commitment. A hobby can apply to virtually any pursuit as long as you take the time to master a skill, research and learn about your interest. This can include academic topics such as astronomy that you pursue as an amateur.

Cultural Activities

Recreation that is cultural such as dancing in a traditional festival. Cultural activities can also relate to modern culture such as pop culture or youth culture. For example, cosplaying can be viewed as a cultural type of recreation.

Summary

Recreation is an activity pursued for enjoyment or as a type of enrichment whereby you find an activity is rewarding or fulfilling. This is similar to the concept of leisure with recreation implying activities that are active as opposed to merely passive. For example, video games are recreation as they can involve creativity, competition and skill whereas watching television is leisure.
