The Difference
Batch production performs one step at a time on multiple items. Mass production performs all steps concurrently. Batch production lends itself well to situations where batches are unique. For example, the same production equipment may be used to produce both cookies and bagels. The production equipment may be cleaned and reconfigured between batches. This makes efficient use of equipment and is common in industries such as bakeries and packaged food goods.Mass production may achieve a greater scale than batch production as all equipment can be used at all times. In some cases, mass production is sophisticated enough to produce different items concurrently on the same line. For example, apple juice and pineapple juice could be made on the same line at the same time for high volume production.Batch Production vs Mass Production | ||
