88 Types of Light Blue

 , updated on January 24, 2024
Light blue are colors composed of blue and white light possibly with tinges of other colors. Blue is a spectral color meaning that pure blue light exists. Pure blues are usually perceived as a medium blue or cyan. As such, it takes white light to create light blue. This is a very common color in nature because long wavelengths of light such as red tend to be absorbed by random particles of air or water but these particles allow shorter blue wavelengths to pass through. This effect is known as Rayleigh scattering. Where Rayleigh scattering is complete the sky and water can appear medium blue. If the effect is only partial, as is common, you get blue mixed with white light. This is why the sky and bodies of water are often a light blue. The following are common types of light blue.
