Management metrics are measurements of the objectives of managers. They are commonly used to measure the value created by a manager for purposes such as performance management. Management metrics may also be used to accomplish management goals by measuring, changing and measuring again in a process of innovation or improvement. The following are common types of management metrics.

Teams

Measuring organizational culture and the performance of teams and individuals.

Innovation

Measuring your rate of change and its contributions to your goals such as revenue and efficiency.

Processes

Processes are repeated aspects of your business that can be formalized into steps and procedures. It is common for most of an organization's resources to be dedicated to processes. As such, they are typically measured and optimized using management accounting techniques.

Projects

Metrics that are used to manage and measure programs and projects.

Quality

Quality metrics in areas such as quality control, quality management and quality assurance.

Risk Management

Measures of the risks you are taking as compared to your risk tolerance. Risk metrics can also be used to calculate the payback for risk management activities.

Information Technology
