What is More Is More?

 , updated on
More is more is a design philosophy that suggests that extreme detail adds extreme value. It is associated with aesthetics such as the decorative designs of Art Deco. More is more also extends to designs with intricate detail, extensive functionality, complex logic and powerful user interfaces.
More is more is based on the observation that nature and technology tend to move from simple forms to complex with time. It is difficult to get complexity right. For example, products and services that have a large number of features may be perceived as bloated and unusable by customers. However, this may have more do to with failed execution such as pushing features out too fast as opposed to an inherent problem with complexity. When complexity is well designed such that each feature or detail adds value it is a viable challenge to minimalist design.

Less is a Bore

Less is a bore is a weaker form of the more is more aesthetic that simply suggests that minimalism tends to result in repetitive and uninspired designs such as concrete buildings filled with white rooms.
