150 Types of Pink Color

 , updated on
Pink is a composite color that results from red mixed with white or blue. This is a historically rare color as pink wasn't a common color for dye or paint until the 18th century. Likewise, pink is relative rare in nature and is primarily associated with flowers. As a tint of red, pink can also occur in sunrises and sunsets wherein it can occupy much of the sky. Like red, pink is considered a bold color that immediately commands attention. It's historically associated with femininity, romance, sweetness, softness, tenderness, delicacy, cuteness and youth.

Etymology

The word pink emerged in the 14th century to mean to decorate, perforate or cut. The word still retains this meaning in the form of pinking shears, special scissors designed to leave a zigzag pattern in cloth. The color pink is named after a flower known as the common pink, garden pink, or wild pink. This use of the word emerged in the late 17th century.
