Civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy. The savage's whole existence is public, ruled by the laws of his tribe. Civilization is the process of setting man free from men. ~ Ayn Rand Privacy is the right to live aspects of your life unobserved and unrecorded. It is a freedom that is commonly valued by people across cultural boundaries. For much of history, privacy increased as economic progress allowed communities, families, friends and individuals to find spaces all to themselves. This has changed with the introduction of technologies that digitize social interactions, communications and place sensors in a wide range of devices to record data that may never be deleted. If people continue to value privacy, it may return as culture is slow to deal with technology but usually wins out in the long run.
