Cultural Interests

Participating in traditional, popular or youth culture.

Extracurricular Activities

Activities that students take on at school or in their communities out of interest and as a form of enrichment.

Recreational Interests

Active interests that are pursued for joy and self-fulfillment without need of serious goals.

Hobbies

Activities pursued for interest that are beyond the scope of your professional and academic experience. Unlike recreation, these aren't necessarily active.

Collecting

Collecting is a hobby that involves acquiring and preserving artifacts. This is typically a learning process whereby you may become an expert in these artifacts over time.

Sports

Sports are structured physical activities that are designed to be competitive. This includes actual competitions such as games and races. Sports are also competitive in the sense that participants seek to improve their performance, even where they aren't directly competing with anyone.

Community Interests

Getting involved where you live including volunteering, political participation and hobbies that connect you to your community.

Academic Interests

Personal interest in an academic subject or pursuit such as research.

Technology Interests

Interests related to technology including information technology, physical technology and digital media.
Personal interests can include hobbies, leisure activities, arts, sports, community activities, volunteer positions, cultural activities, traditional practices, recreation, extracurricular activities, research topics, self-learning and classes that you have taken.
Generally speaking, active interests that involve other people tend to be more impressive on a resume, application or in an interview than interests that appear passive or isolated. For example, watching television or collecting stamps on your own may be viewed as passive and isolated.
