A Simple and Effective Business Dashboard Example

        posted by , April 28, 2011

Dashboard examples provided by vendors and consultants often have loads of knobs and tiddly bits. In my experience, executives prefer simple dashboards that get to the point. Heat maps are a good example of a simple dashboard design that appeals to decision makers.

The example below shows the status of a telecom business by product and geography.

Drill Down

Ideally, the top level dashboard should drill down to details. For example, if the profit and loss (P&L) for a product is red — you should be able to drill down into the numbers.

Want to impress your regulators and internal auditors? Give them a dashboard of your enterprise status where red areas drill down into controls that have been implemented.
