Personal DevicesDevices that are mostly for your exclusive use such as a smartphone or laptop computer. This is a long running trend in electronics whereby people are less likely to share devices with others. For example, people are likely to consume media on personal devices such as a tablet with declining use of shared devices such as a living room television.Home ElectronicsDevices that are commonly shared by members of a household. These represent services provided by a home such as lighting or a home theater system in a shared room.Home AutomationDevices that link into some type of central control such that they can be managed automatically or with user commands. For example, being able to turn off all the lights on a floor with a command to a voice assistant.Home AppliancesHome appliances are generally electronics that do some type of physical work. For example, an oven that heats things up or a washing machine that works to clean clothing.ComputersA class of machines that can perform operations on data at high speed. Computers are included in most electronics and are also embedded within everyday things such as toys. However, people typically only view things as computers where they use software on devices directly as with a laptop or smartphone.Media DevicesDevices for digital media including videos, music, video games and other immersive digital experiences.Low TechTechnology that is valued for its lack of features or connection to the past. For example, old media devices that are valued for the culture attached to them. It is also common to value low tech for its simple interface, privacy or the security of devices that can't connect to the internet or other networks.Power ToolsTools that do work but require humans to operate them. For example, a drill is a tool because it can't do anything without you using it directly whereas a washing machine is an appliance because it does much work on its own.SummaryElectronics are things are powered by electricity. These often contain computers except for simple devices such as basic power tools.Next read: Consumer Technology
