100 Examples of Color Combinations

 ,
A color combination is a set of colors that match or that are useful to achieve a purpose such as contrast. There are various methods for matching colors including analogous colors that are visually similar, complementary colors that are visually dissimilar and monochromatic colors that all have the same hue. Color combinations can also based on concepts such as colors inspired by the same element of culture or nature. There are no rules and experienced designers intuitively know what colors match or create a useful effect. The following are illustrative examples of color combinations.

Red

Red is a warm color that corresponds to the longest wavelength of visible light. It is analogous to orange and purple. Its complement is green but red is rarely matched to green because this is strongly symbolic of Christmas. Generally speaking, red is a difficult color to match as it is intense. As such, it is commonly matched to neutral colors, namely black, white, brown and grey. Red can also work with blue.
