Why are Things Muticolored?

Multicolored things are extraordinarily rare in nature. These include atmospheric phenomena such as rainbows and aurora borealis. Male birds are often multicolored as a strategy for attracting a mate. It is also possible for natural things to be collectively multicolor such as coral reefs.
Bright multicolor designs are used by advertising, packaging and commercial environments to attract attention. This is not unlike the strategy of male birds that use bright colors to signal. However, the industrial scale of advertising can cause the world to become oversaturated with commercial color.
Generally speaking, people find bright multicolored things difficult to look at because color has much meaning to the mind such that this is a type of information overload. Multicolored things tend to feel festive or youthful where colors are used to celebrate childhood and special occasions but are often avoided for "serious" things because they can feel overly dramatic.

Mix Colors

The term multicolored is associated with bright colors but it is also common for things to be multicolored with less intense colors. This is very common for fashions, textiles and interiors where things are often colorful without turning brightness up to the maximum. This can feel comfortable, mature and organic.
