World population is currently over 7.6 billion people and is growing at around 1.1% per year. The growth rate of population has declined dramatically since 1971 when it stood at 2.1%. This may be due to changing lifestyles, particularly in developed countries. Due to this trend, the UN Population Division expects world population to peak or flatten off at around 10.9 billion people by the end of the 21st century. The following is a ranking of countries by population.
