Space is a term for everything in the Universe beyond the Earth's atmosphere. The exploration and commercialization of space, primarily in the form of satellites, is a major industry. Space represents a source of knowledge, energy, materials and new habitats that represent endless potential for human endeavor. Space technologies may eventually mitigate risks to Earth and improve quality of life. For example, industry and energy production could be shifted to space in order to protect Earth's ecosystems.
