Individuality is the set of traits that distinguish an individual from others. Each human has individual characteristics that set them apart from all other humans. Individuality tends to be applied to personality, cognitive and behavioral traits as opposed to physical traits such as hair color. However, where physical traits are chosen as a personal expression, they can be considered part of your individuality. The following are illustrative examples of individuality.
Abilities | Accomplishments | Aesthetic Sense | Attitudes | Biases | Character Flaws | Character Strengths | Creative Expressions | Discipline | Dreams | Emotions | Experiences | Fears & Bravery | Goals | Hobbies | Ideas / Theories | Idiosyncrasies | Imagination | Intelligence | Intentions | Interests | Knowledge | Lifestyle | Likes & Dislikes | Mannerisms | Mission | Morals | Motivations | Needs | Opinions | Personal Culture | Personal Presence | Personality | Philosophy | Preferences | Profession | Relationships | Roles & Responsibilities | Self-image | Sensibilities | Social Behaviors | Spirit | Style | Talents | Temperament | Values | Vision | Voice | Way of Life | Way of Thinking | Worldview |
Idiosyncrasies are things that you do in an unusual way such that they are quite unique. For example, a tendency to use verbal expressions that are your original compositions.Intentions are goals that apply to your behavior as opposed to end-results. For example, an intention to be nice to someone.Personal culture is the set of cultures that you personally belong to. For example, you may belong to a national culture, city culture, neighborhood culture, school culture, ethnic culture, subcultures and super cultures.Personal presence is the general atmosphere that you project to others. For example, someone who is perceived as commanding, cheery or aloof.Way of life is how you choose to live including elements such as lifestyle, behavior and intentions.Individualism vs IndividualityIndividualism is the belief that one should pursue their life with a sense of freedom from others. Individuality is how you stand out from others -- this will occur even where the person rejects individualism and tries hard to conform to a group.Individuality ComplexIndividuality complex is the belief that you are more individualistic that other people. This isn't a true complex but is more of a bias. It is perhaps natural to see yourself as more individual as others as you can feel the depth of your thoughts and emotions such that it is hard to believe that others may feel similar depth and variety of thought.
