Natural Grey ThingsGrey is a pervasive color in nature that is associated with low light or turbulent environments such as fog or storms. Natural grey things include human characteristics such as grey eyes and grey hair. They also include organic things such as tree roots, bark and ashes.Grey MaterialsMaterials that are commonly grey include metals, rock and fabrics. Most metals have a lustrous grey appearance with a few exceptions such as the yellow of gold and the red of copper. Common rocks such as slate, shale and limestone are also grey as are undyed fabrics such as cotton and wool.Grey AnimalsIt is reasonably common for mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians and insects to be grey. This includes animals that are always grey such as elephants and animals that demonstrate grey color variations such as a grey cat.Grey FoodsGrey is a somewhat rare color for food. Many black foods such as black olives may be technically dark grey. It is also common for foods such as mushrooms or burdock to be a brownish grey. Some blue cheeses also can be greyish blue.Other Grey ThingsOther things that are characteristically grey are often made of metal or stone such as armor or statues. Grey things can also result from low light such as a grey rain. Fictional things such as ghosts use this low light aspect of grey to create a sense of mystery and otherworldliness.Next read: Grey Color
