Non sequitur are two sentences that do not connect with each other. It is a common conversational and literary device that may have a comical effect. Non sequitur can be used to get an audience's attention or to make a point with abrupt, illogical and absurd statements. They may also give a story personality by expressing idiosyncrasies. The following are examples of non sequitur phrases.Don't be sad. My cat's name is Steve.---Robots are getting smarter all the time. Coffee also tastes good.---Yeah, he's pretty smart.
