Business Risk

Risks to a profit seeking entity. The term business risk is mostly applied to revenue-facing risks whereby other risks to a business are covered by organizational risk or operational risk.

Organizational Risk

Any risk that impacts an organization. In practice, this term is most often applied to high level risks at the enterprise level with broad categories such as operational risk that are relevant to the top level executive and governance layers of an organization.

Operational Risk

Operational risk is the potential for losses and shortfalls related to your core value generating processes. These processes differ greatly by industry and often overlap with technology risk.

Technology Risk

The risks to the technology of an organization, particularly technology operations. As organizations become more automated and dependent on technology tools, all other types of organizational risk begin to resemble technology risks.

Project Risk

The risks to a project including failure to deliver the project to budget, schedule, specifications and expectations. A key risk that is often overlooked here is benefit shortfall whereby a project doesn't achieve the benefits promised in its business case.
