Risk characteristics are properties of risk that are identified as part of basic risk analysis. These are mostly about the probability that the risk will occur and the different types of impact the risk may create. It is also common to identify the owner of the risk and any associated time frames and conditions known as risk triggers. The following are the basic risk characteristics.
Probability | Impact | Health and safety impact | Revenue impact | Operational impact | Social impact | Environmental impact | Compliance impact | Brand and reputation impact | Customer impact | Risk owner | Risk timing | Risk trigger |
Sophisticated risk analysis disciplines will estimate probably and impact as statistical models. This can be roughly approximated with a relatively simple probability-impact matrix.A risk trigger is a condition that makes a risk more likely.
