Emerald green is a dark green with a tinge of blue that corresponds to the color of high grade emerald gemstones. Emeralds have been prized as a gemstone since around 1500 BC and emerald has been used as an English color name since 1598. Emerald green is surrounded in much history and folklore. For example, the classic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz features a city called Emerald City where everything is colored emerald green including the food.
