Tomato is a bright deep red or orangish red that is inspired by the color of tomatoes. Tomatoes are technically a large berry because they are a fleshy fruit without a stone produced from a single flower. They are green throughout most of their growth and turn a orangish red and then a bright red with sun and heat due to the presence of chemicals in the fruit such as lycopene, carotene and ethylene. The following are common color names inspired by the tomato fruit.
AssociationsTomato may be perceived as a mature and earthy color. This is rare for a bright red as these are normally perceived as brash and flashy.
NotesTomatoes can also ripen to other colors such as yellow and orange depending on the variety of tomato plant.
