Round things are things that are approximately circular, cylindrical or spherical. This is a common shape in nature whereby the forces of nature such as gravity or erosion have a tendency to shape things this way. Round shapes are also common in engineered things such as wheels and designed things such as clocks. This is often a practical form factor such as a wheel that reduces friction with surfaces with a near cylindrical shape. Circles and other round shapes are also appreciated in an aesthetic sense for their symmetry. The following are examples of round things.

Fruits & VegetablesRound is an extraordinarily common shape for fruits. This appears to be some type of evolutionary adaptation. For example, the round shape of a fruit prevents it from accumulating water and allows the seeds to be placed in the center at an equal distance from the surface on all sides. Round FoodsFoods that are naturally round or that are customarily round. This is often a product of the production process. For example, if you pour some pancake batter in a pan the batter spreads out and becomes roundish. This tend becomes the expected shape of a pancake and people start making them perfectly circular.Natural Round ThingsRound is a common shape in nature due to various forces and phenomena. For example, planets tend to become round due to gravity pulling matter towards the center of the planet. Pebbles are often round due to the effects of erosion. A ripple in water from a rain drop is round due to the symmetry of the forces created by the water impact.Round CollectiblesRound is a common shape for collectibles. For example, coins, medals and marbles are almost always round. Coins are round based on historical precedent whereby early methods of producing coins used circles because they are easier to press or stamp uniformly with a consistent thickness and weight. This is also highly functional. For example, coins in your pocket do not poke you because they have rounded edges.Round Everyday ObjectsCommon round things such as sporting goods, musical instruments and household items. These are typically round for some functional reason such as a ball that is round so that it will bounce and roll.Iconic Round ThingsThings that are symbolic of roundness or that quickly come to mind when asked to list some round objects. These are mostly perfectly circular things but also include teardrop shapes that are slightly less round such as balloons.SummaryRound shapes are pervasive in both nature and human-made objects. In the case of nature, this is often due to either an evolutionary adaptation or some type of force or phenomena that makes things round over time. In the case of human-made items, things are often round due to some functional, cultural, traditional or aesthetic reason.Next read: Natural Things
