Periwinkle is a bluish violet or purplish blue that is based on the color of dwarf periwinkle flowers. These were historically planted at cemeteries in the United States. This practice was so pervasive, that periwinkle flowers are considered a sign that there may be unmarked graves at a site. Due its association with cemeteries, periwinkle is considered an auspicious color that symbolizes everlasting love, sentimental memories, serenity and calmness. It also symbolizes winter, ice and cold because periwinkle plants are hearty evergreens. The following are common periwinkle colors.
