Celadon is a very old color name based on the color of traditional East Asian ceramics of the same name. As a ceramic, celadon originated in the Chinese Northern Song Dynasty (960–1127) and is a semi-transparent light green that is based on the presence of ferrous iron. This is traditionally a prized color and material due to its similarity to jade. As an English color name, light creamy greens have been known as Celadon since at least 1627. Celadon has a modern classic feel as it was commonly used in early 20th century fashions and interiors. The following palette includes several variations of celadon and a few similar colors.
