172 Types of Logo Colors

 ,
Logo colors are colors that are selected for the foundational visual identity of a firm or brand. Firms use logos to establish brand recognition and brand image in a crowded market. As such, colors may be selected to stand out from competitors and symbolize something about the brand. The following is an outline of basic color symbolism, also known as color psychology, as it applies to logo design. This is followed by a useful palette for each category.

Neutral

Color psychology is often exaggerated whereby pundits claim that colors elicit deep emotional responses in an audience or target market. This isn't completely likely. Consumers see thousands of logos a week and seldom does this move their emotions in any significant way. However, colors do symbolize things and consumers use color as a mental shortcut to understand what they are viewing. In this context, neutral colors feel mature, conservative, trustworthy, authentic and relaxed. This is logical more than emotional as a greyscale color indicates a brand isn't going for a quick conversion but it inviting you to get to know it.

Peaceful & Environmental

The natural world is mostly green and people innately perceive greens as natural and tranquil. As such, firms that are positioning a brand as environmental, natural or organic commonly have green logos. Unnatural looking greens such as Erin below tend to feel toxic.

Browns, blues and neutrals can feel conservative. Blue in particular is such a conventional choice that it risks mediocrity. The best examples of blue logos are usually based on a color with very high contrast with blue such as yellow or orange.
