What is Negative Selection? John Spacey, updated on
Negative selection is when a leader selects and promotes incompetence in order to prevent their position from being challenged. In its extreme form, negative selection is known to occur in dictatorships whereby a dictator may "purge" anyone who shows initiative or intelligence. Negative selection can also occur in a less extreme form within any organization as some managers may be hesitant to hire and promote those who compete with their own strengths.
