What is Abundance Mentality? John Spacey, updated on
Abundance mentality is the belief that there is enough for everyone. It is considered a soft skill that is associated with productivity and leadership. It's typically contrasted with a scarcity mentality, a belief that business is a competition for fixed resources or status. The analogy is often used that a scarcity mentality views business as a competition for a bigger piece of a pie. An abundance mentality views business as a process of baking more pies. Abundance mentality is associated with employees who are more focused on productivity than office politics. In other words, employees who don't feel threatened by the abilities and successes of others. For example, a manager with an abundance mentality may strongly support the development of their team members. Such managers may build a large professional network over the course of a career by mentoring, coaching and supporting promising talent who go on to become leaders.
