Khaki is a light brown with tinges of yellow and green originally based on the color of 19th century British military uniforms. The word khaki comes from the Hindustani word xaki for "soil-colored" based on the Persian word khak for "soil." Khaki color is commonly used for military uniforms and camouflage for deserts and other arid terrain. The word khaki is also used for a type of men's casual pants made from chino cloth. These were originally designed for military use but became popular as a civilian fashion in the 19th century. Khaki is still the most common color for chino pants such that the color name and the pants have become synonymous. The following are common types of khaki color.Dark Khaki #998877 Vintage Khaki #9a9186 True Khaki #b8ae98 British Khaki #bcaf97 Khaki #2 #c3b091 Indian Khaki #d3b09c Desert Khaki #d6cdb7 Khaki #f0e68c Bright Khaki #f1e78c Bright Khaki #2 #fbe4af
NotesThe color "khaki" above is a standard CSS and HTML color. As is common with these colors, this has an inaccurate mapping to real world colors. Many CSS colors are based on color names arbitrarily chosen by unix programmers in 1986. The color "khaki #2" above is more accurate.Historically, khaki uniforms were typically darker than equivalents today.
