Mustard is a yellow or orange color inspired by the condiment of the same name. The condiment mustard was invented by the ancient Romans who produced it with young wine known as mustum that is the Latin root of the English word mustard. This was combined with the ground seeds of the mustard plant to create a spicy condiment. Mustard remained a popular food item throughout the middle ages and became particularly associated with French cuisine and the region Dijon. Traditional mustard is a dull gold-like yellow that can verge on brown or orange. Bright yellow variations of mustard color are inspired by American mustard that is colored with turmeric that produces a far brighter product. The following are common types of mustard color.
