What are Hygiene Factors?

Hygiene factors are a type of expectation that impact a person's motivation. They are a type of basic condition that don't increase motivation if they are met but may dramatically decrease motivation if they are not met. For example, a worker may expect to be provided with a comfortable chair. If they are given a cheap plastic lawn chair by a new employer, it may decrease motivation.
