What is Optimism?

 , updated on
Optimism is a tendency to be enthusiastic and to look for the positive aspects of most situations. This is associated with risk taking and an abundance mentality whereby you are happy for others when they are successful. Optimists see the good side of people and situations and communicate by framing messages in a positive light.
Criticism of optimism suggests that optimists may take excessive and poorly calculated risks that result in painful failures followed by a conversion to pessimism. For example, may pessimists will claim they were once optimists.
Optimists might argue that failures are simply a learning experience and that true optimists tend to bounce back quickly from setbacks. The term optimism doesn't necessarily imply that a person is bad at managing risk or making realistic judgments.
