Analytic reasoning is the use of logic that is independently true. In other words, no experience or information about the world is necessary to interpret analytic reasoning. In common usage, the term analytic reasoning is more loosely defined as thought and arguments based on facts.
Analytic vs SyntheticAn analytic statement is true in itself. Synthetic statements require knowledge about the world to know that they are true. A statement such as "all bachelors are unmarried" is analytic as its true in itself. A statement such as "France has a rich and interest culture" is synthetic as it can't be proven to be true without additional information.|
