Social characteristics are elements of an individual's personality that relate to social processes. This includes traits that are purely social such as introversion and extroversion. There is also a large grey area between personal characteristics and social characteristics. For example, confidence is a personal trait that may also greatly influence social behavior. The following are common social characteristics.

SociabilityYour willingness and enthusiasm for engaging others and building relationships. Sociability goes beyond the dichotomy between extroversion and introversion. For example, you could be outgoing in social situations but uninterested in building and sustaining relationships over time. There is also a difference between people in terms of how much they depend on social processes and their willingness to take the lead in social situations.Communication StyleThe way that you tend to communicate to others. Communication style is greatly influenced by culture. For example, American culture tends towards direct communication and Japanese culture tends towards indirect communication such as saving face.Personal PresenceHow you command yourself in social situations and how you are generally perceived by others. This is an intangible thing that is intuitively understood by people. For example, people describe being able to sense someone's personal presence the moment they walk in a room.Social DispositionYour general approach to other people.
