What is Convergent Thinking? John Spacey, updated on
Convergent thinking is the process of determining the correct answer to a problem. It is often contrasted with divergent thinking, a process of creative thinking that questions and probes a topic rather than calculating a logically correct answer.
It can often be demonstrated that there's a right answer to a calculation, decision or problem. Convergent thinking typically applies best known techniques to determine this answer. It can also be used when there's no unambiguously correct answer to a problem. In such cases, it might be called conventional thinking.
