Visual media is a visual way of communicating meaning. This includes digital media such as social media and traditional media such as television. Visual media can encompass entertainment, advertising, art, performance art, crafts, information artifacts and messages between people. Most media has some type of visual component.

Media isn't considered visual where it is mostly textual or audio in content. Nonverbal communication such as eye-contact isn't considered visual media even though it is a visual thing.
