Graphic Design
Graphic design is a broad term for the design of mostly 2-dimensional visual images, environments, layouts and information.
Media Design
Design that goes into the production of media such as films, video games and theatrical productions.
Production Design
Production design traditionally creates the physical things that go into a media production such as a film or theatrical performance.
Identity Design
Designs that symbolize the identity of institutions, organizations, brands and other things such as places. This includes logos and trade dress such as packaging. It can also be extended to entire environments such as a store where everything is branded including employee uniforms.
Publication Design
The arrangement, illustration and presentation of mass produced publications such as books and magazines. This was traditionally associated with printed publications but now includes digital publications that aren't interactive such as eBooks.
Environmental Design
Environmental design is traditionally the planning of physical spaces. This overlaps with visual design where these spaces are viewed as having visual qualities. For example, architecture and interior design are considered highly visual as opposed to merely functional.
