What is a Jugaad? John Spacey, updated on
Jugaad is a term in Punjabi language for a simple workaround or small scale innovation. It originated to describe the approach of enterprising street mechanics in Punjab region of India and Pakistan who fix machinery and vehicles with extremely limited resources. Jugaad workarounds are a basic survival strategy to keep a piece of machinery working that someone may depend on for income or transport. The term is often extended to include any practical workarounds that are less than ideal but keep things moving such as political compromises.
