What is Sentiment Analysis?

 , updated on
Sentiment analysis is a type of artificial intelligence that seeks to understand the general attitude, meaning or opinion behind text or other types of content such as videos.
The purpose of sentiment analysis is typically to derive metrics from large qualities of data such as streams of social media posts. This has applications for marketing and customer service. For example, a marketing team may want to judge the effect of a marketing campaign by looking at comments in social media. Sentiment analysis takes streams of unique comments and can approximate how many were positive and negative.
Beyond metrics, a sentiment analysis can be used to identify happy customers to thank them for a positive comment or unhappy customers to see if you can fix their problem.
