Telecommand is the control of things from a remote location. The term predates modern internet of things controls and dates back to telephone and radio based controls implemented as early as the 1920s. Large scale infrastructure such as pipelines and water systems were commonly controlled remotely by the 1960s. Modern telecommand systems are typically internet based with the exception of things in remote locations such as space.
Telemetry & TelecommandTelemetry is the automated collection and communication of data. In many cases, telecommand systems also had telemetry functions. For example, a pipeline might include telemetry for reporting temperatures and flow volumes and telecommand for controlling valves.|
