Time strengths are talents, know-how and character traits that allow an individual to make productive use of time. Time is a strange dimension as it can only be traveled in one direction. It is also the most limited resource in the sense that no one can produce more time -- it moves at the same pace for everyone. As such, using time effectively is a basis for outcompeting or living life well. The following are common time strengths.
Action Planning | Agent of Change | Bias for Action | Calculated Risk Taking | Clearing Issues | Dealing With Ambiguity / Not Overthinking | Decision Making / Timely Decisions | Determination | Energy | Enthusiasm | Imagination | Industriousness | Initiative | Investing In People, Processes and Tools | Last Responsible Moment / Not Overplanning | Lessons Learned / Learning From Failure | Managing Commitments | Managing Expectations | Optimization | Patience (not doing things until it's time) | Perseverance | Persistence | Pragmatism | Problem Solving | Process Improvement | Productivity | Prototyping / Experimenting / Testing | Quality Time | Recognizing Failure | Recovering From Failure | Resourcefulness | Respect for Time | Rethinking Processes, Practices and Procedures | Self-Direction | Self-Discipline | Self-Improvement | Setting Priorities | Solving the Root Cause of Problems | Thinking Big / Attention to Detail | | Work Ethic | Work Throughput |
It is common to view planning related skills as prioritizing, delegation, organization and scheduling as the core time management strengths. It should be noted that the most productive of people do not overplan and may do things quickly in a seemingly chaotic way. This is reflected in the list above with approaches such as last responsible moment that challenge the convention that time management is a systematic and conservative planning exercise.
