Future goals are long term aspirational plans. These serve as an inspiration and need not be completely realistic and achievable. Future goals aren't particularly actionable and aren't as important as short term objectives or intentions in changing behavior and actually achieving things. They can even be a bad habit whereby an individual or organization make wild claims about what they will achieve in future without doing much today. The following are illustrative examples of future goals.
Awards & Recognitions | Buying a House | Career Change | College / University | Community Engagement | Creative Pursuits | Cultural Participation | Developing / Mastering a Talent | Doing Good | Education | Entering a Profession | Environmental Action | Epic Experiences | Establishing Good Habits | Fame | Family Life | Financial Independence & Stability | Friendships | Getting a Job | Grades | Growing a Business | Health & Wellness | Income & Wealth | Investments | Leadership / Management | Learning | Lifestyle Changes | Mastering an Art | Overcoming Problems | Overcoming a Bad Habit | Perfecting a Language | Personal Development | Physical Fitness | Political Participation | Promotions | Public Speaking | Publishing a Book | Reputation | Research Projects | Revenue | Romance | Salary & Bonuses | Self-awareness | Social Change | Social Status | Spirituality / Faith | Starting a Business | Starting a Family | Transforming Your Character | |
Future goals are by definition aspirational and not immediately achievable. Therefore they are aren't typically smart. If you are asked your future goals in the context of a job interview, they should relate to the position at hand. Choose goals that illustrate your fit for the role that seem realistic. For example, if you are seeking a role as a junior software developer a future goal to be a senior software developer may be perceived as grounded and focused.
