Personal interests are optional activities, memberships and pursuits that you have adopted on your own. These are often communicated to potential schools and employers to demonstrate that you are a well-rounded person who goes far beyond the minimum expectations in life. This is typically a learning process whereby you may become an expert in these artifacts over time.SportsSports are structured physical activities that are designed to be competitive. This includes actual competitions such as games and races. Sports are also competitive in the sense that participants seek to improve their performance, even where they aren't directly competing with anyone.Community InterestsGetting involved where you live including volunteering, political participation and hobbies that connect you to your community.Academic InterestsPersonal interest in an academic subject or pursuit such as research.Technology InterestsInterests related to technology including information technology, physical technology and digital media.Personal interests can include hobbies, leisure activities, arts, sports, community activities, volunteer positions, cultural activities, traditional practices, recreation, extracurricular activities, research topics, self-learning and classes that you have taken. Generally speaking, active interests that involve other people tend to be more impressive on a resume, application or in an interview than interests that appear passive or isolated.
