What are Leading Lines? John Spacey, updated on
Leading lines is a visual composition technique that makes use of lines to direct the eye. People have a cognitive tendency to follow lines as they attempt to understand what they are seeing. As such, leading lines can be used to give a composition a sense of balance or to lead the eye to a particular subject. In many cases, lines that stretch off into the horizon are used to instill a sense of distance.
