Data is the representation of meaning using a set of symbols. The term is most often used to describe the storage and processing of binary symbols by machines. The following are the basic types of data.
SensorData from sensors such as cameras, global positioning units, proximity sensors, thermometers, accelerometers, magnetometers and gyroscopes.
User InputInput from users such as taps on a screen.
InteractionsInteractions such as a mobile device connecting to a website or a financial transaction.
CalculatedData that is calculated from other data such as the revenue of a company that is calculated from accounting journal entries.
MetadataData about data such as control data in a database.
InformationInformation is any data that has meaning to humans.
KnowledgeInformation created by human thought processes such as theory, philosophy, critical analysis, predictions, strategies and creative works.
Artificial KnowledgeInformation created by artificial intelligence such as predictions and interpretations.
